Hi Beverly,
At a recent Smartboard training, a primary teacher suggested a long wand or
dowel with a rubber tip to help kids reach the board.

Our Smartboards have been mounted over our chalkboards. However, the students
can only reach less than half of the surface. Kind of defeats the interactivity
part. Anyone found a solution? Some kind of step or platform for students?
Thanks
Bev

I have seen one school that uses a plastic step, the kind that is used in
exercise step class to reach the top half of the smartboard.

Our Promethean Boards are mounted over the chalkboards as well. They are
placed on a sliding track so that we can adjust the height as needed. Maybe
you can talk to your installers and find out you were supposed to get something
similar...

I built a platform about 16 inches deep, 5 feet long and 7 3/4 inches high.
Stapled some old carpet over it to add to the ambiance. I found it works
better if it is about 6 inches out from the wall, so, if you're building one
perhaps 22-24 inches wide would be better. Works like a charm. My grade 3 and 4
students routinely reach the menu line to launch programs, select tools for
their class presentations and routines. Maybe a high school in your area can
help. Enjoy

You probably already know this but you can raise and lower the board using the
arrows on the attached controller. With this nifty aid, our 2nd graders can
reach 75% of the board. My 5th grade daughter who is the size of a 3rd grader
can reach to the top.
Thank you,
