I would recommend leaving teaching applications like Adobe's Photoshop or
Illustrator until students have learned to express themselves with
traditional mediums. Even applications like Corel's Painter or KPT Add-ons
have a learning curve. With only 50 minutes to share, I would use the
computer as a way to introduce kids to Art History instead.
I don't think there's much about Art History you won't find here
http://dir.yahoo.com/Arts/Art_History/Periods_and_Movements/
The National Gallery recently launched this site
NGA for KIDS - http://www.nga.gov/kids/
I really found the animated version of John Singleton Copley's 'Watson and
the Shark' very interesting... http://www.nga.gov/kids/watson/story1.html
Another GREAT resource is
Web Gallery of Art - http://www.kfki.hu/~arthp/index1.html
The Web Gallery is nice because they put together "tours" of artists like
"Italian Painters from 1200 - 1750" The narratives of the tours read much
more like a story than your average Art History text.

BROWSER BEWARE! There's a whole lot of naked people in some of these
paintings! Personally, I'm SO glad as a species we've outgrown the sexual
depravity of centuries past and realized the human body is something that
should ALWAYS be covered :)
