I've seen a lot of computer (both Mac and PC) Desktop Gadgets that do a lot
of different things (the weather, a clock, a search window) and it has got
me wondering, what would be an indispensible desktop gadget for nearly every
teacher to have on their screen?
To be so valuable, it would be something that teachers would want to use
daily.
Maybe it would be something like a 'teaching tip of the day' or a new
science resource. It could be a search tool for something specific to the
topic they're teaching that day. Or maybe it would be a shortcut to show how
TIAA-CREF investments were doing!
I'd like to know what your thoughts are on what would be the most useful
Desktop Gadget for teachers.

I would say an RSS feed reader - versatile, can include a lot of other
web2.0 tools.

Michael,
I would choose iGoogle homepage with widgets and RSS feeds. I show
teachers how to use this to create both a PLE and a curriculum content
resource. Because iGoogle comes up every time I get online, I can see
which of the RSS feeds has something that I could use with a class that
day. Topics could range from "word of the day" for ELL students, to
subject-specific content like NASA picture of the Day, or National
Geographic.
I presented on this topic as a Google Certified Teacher at a past CUE
conference and still have the presentation materials. I would be glad to
send these to anyone who is interested.
Happy Holidays,
