Thanks so much for replying so quickly. I know you can understand my concerns. Please place me on your mailing list for further information about the program you founded. Can you please send me any materials about the school in Miami or give a phone number where I can reach them.
Thank you again,
Cecilia

If you are planning to move to Miami, I founded a school there when my son, Andrew Campbell was born in 1976. I replicated a program I found at the University of Washington., and I named the school The Learning Experience School. As a side note, I'm developing a working ranch in Colorado for adults with DS which should be operational within a year.

Hi Cecilia,

I moved to Atlanta in '86 and have had nothing to do with the school since then. I know a high school was added since I left, which I have seen. I don't have a phone number for the school, but I'm sure information would have it. I can give you a referral, however. Please write to me at jcra...@aol.com. I can give you the name of someone who would answer your questions regarding the school thoroughly and candidly.

In my opinion, I wouldn't hope for much in the way of public schools in Florida. The entire South is behind times.

I am collecting information of Art school or studio for handicap person
including DS people. School for actors or musicians, that provides
course for people with handicap are helpful.
I know "CREAHM" in Belgium.

Please tell me your information.

Eiichi,
There are many individual artists with Downs Syndrome who have sold and
exhibited work including Sally Johnson but I do not know of any art schools
specifically for people with a disability. However I know that some people
with disabilities have attended mainstream art schools. There are also
specialist colleges for people with disabilities and many of them offer art
courses as well as music and drama My daughter attended a college called
Derwen College . and among the courses she took were music and art and
crafts. The crafts included candlemaking and fabrics where the students
produced original work of a high standard. For more information go to
http://www.natspec.org.uk/ which gives a list of all the colleges and the
diffierent courses they offer

Someone just posted an article about an artist from Creative Growth in
Oakland, California. I don't know if it qualifies as a formal school or
not, but they've been in existence for years and provide a creative outlet
for people with mental disabilities.

Dear Catherine and Susan,

Thank you for your kind quick help.
Your information are very helpful.
The reason why I asked it is, there is a plan to make an class or
course for professional actor or musician for handicap people by a
famous art school in Okinawa. As you suggested there are many DS people
who has excellent sense and ability of art.

The staff of the school are looking for information and good example.
I remember that Ruth Cromer, nice actor, studied in "Youth Theater" in
Sidney. Is it for person with handicap?

Further information are helpful.

Sincerely,
Eiichi Momotani (Sanae's father in Japan)

In England there is a dance company.I think it is called Kaleidoscope. All
the dancers have Downs Syndrome. There is also a theatre company which has
many actors with Downs Syndrome . I have forgotten the name but will try and
find it for you. Then there is the chicken shed theatre which had disabled
and non disabled actors working together all of whom are children and
teenagers.

The number for The Learning Experience School in Miami is 305-279-9811. My
son is 11 and has attended TLE since the age of 6months. The 'high school'
part of the school has students from 14 to 23, and this next Fall they are
beginning a program called ACE (Adult Continuing Education Program) for
young adults to age 28.

I, too, would be happy to answer any questions you have. Mary Salter
