My name is Becky West. I have a 3 1/2 year old with Down Syndrome.
First time posting a news group article, so if I break any
taboos--sorry.
Does anyone have information and/or experience using Piracetam with a
child with Down Syndrome?
Prescription required?? (drug has not been approved by the FDA)
Side effects??
Benefits??

Yes, if you want to purchase it in the US. International Nutrition can fill

It can cause sleeplessness. We overcame this problem by giving Daniel his
full dose first thing in the AM with his breakfast.
Benefits??
Reported as enhancement of memory, learning and cognitive function. Also
reported to be a powerful antioxidant within the brain.
Publications??
Call TRI at 504-769-8747 and ask for a copy of the Piractem drug monograph.
Where purchased??
International Nutriton if you have an Rx, or any other pharmacy that chooses
to carry it.
No Rx, it can be mail ordered in accordance with relevant FDA guidelines from
overseas. Call CERI at 415-321-CERI and ask for their Resouce Listing.
Cost??
Varies depending on where you purchase it. Currently approximately $15 from
Mexico (OTC) for 30ea 800 mg. caplets. International Nutrition is charging
$65 (I think) for 100ea 800 mg. capsules and has the ability to custom make
whatever dose is appropriate for your child, and will adjust the base price
accordingly.

Actually, International Nutrition can not fill prescriptions, Medical
Center Pharmacy in VA fills them. My child has been on Piracetam for 3
years and I would not, ever, ever take her off of it.

not to flame this person, he is not trying to "sell" anything, they
already stock and sell Piracetam for patients with DS. He is simply
informing the public that it is available at less of an expensive for our
children. Those of you who cannot resist an attack, I would ask that you
put on your "nice people" hats, realize that there are a lot of us using
this product, by PRESCRIPTION, from our children's physicians and we are
happy to know we are going to get a break in the price.

the flame that usually follows such a post. And than you Medical Center

Hi Dixie !
Don't worry about it. As you might have gathered from my earlier postings
I am not too hot about nutritional therapies. Still I feel people are
entitled to make their own choices and if positive information concerning
their choice is available it should be posted here.
