I went to The Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. At the time the program
was not one which included public school certification. So, I went straight
into a Master's program at The University of Cincinnati (Kretschmer, Kretschmer
and Truax) and did my certification requirements there.

Cincinnati? Wondered if you have ever visited St. Rita's School for the Deaf
-- a private oral school for Catholics? If so, what did you think of the
school.

I did visit on several occasions for several purposes. I don't really have an
opinion. I didn't spend enough time to know the curriculum, teachers etc. I
did all my placement teaching in the public schools. So, since I don't really
know much about it I have no real opinion or comments.

St. Rita's is no longer an oral school, and it is not limited to Catholics.

Yes I have visited St. Rita's, as a matter of fact, I volunteer there. I
tutor Jr. High and High school girls. I don't know what I think. I love
the girls, the experience, the people.
As for the method of teaching I don't really have an opinion yet. They are
mainly English, which is hard for me since I am trying to learn ASL. It's
great practice and exposure to me. Sadly enough, right now I have no other
way to use it. I wish I could find more to do, but for right now I think
it is good for me. There is one girl that has trouble with the school that
I tutor. She has known and learned ASL for most of her young life. SHe does
not like the fact that she has to now use English. SHe's very against it. I
do here from some there though, that ST. Rita's tries to accommodate those
who require different methods, etc. Do you know anyone from there? My
teacher here at xavier is one of the elementary teachers at the school..
Connie Gardner. Thanks, Suzanne

I think St. Rita's is no longer an oral school. I know some friends who
grew up and graduated, are good ASL users. I also heard that St. Rita
has a big carnival with rides every year. I never go there myself,
anyway.
