Out of mild curiosity and in an idle moment I browsed through the
Oxford English dictionary, just to see what bright ideas they could
come up with. Just as I thought - it's all the same thing really!
My feeling is that as long as I am up to my elbows in clay anyone can
call it anything they like.

CERAMIC: (1) Of or pertaining to pottery, esp. as an art. (2)(a) The
ceramic art, the art of making pottery. (2)(b) Products of the
ceramic art; pottery.

CERAMIST: One skilled in making pottery; a ceramic artist.

POTTER: A maker of pots, or of earthenware vessels.

POTTERY: (1) A potter's workshop or factory; a pot-factory. (2)
The potter's art, ceramics; the manufacture of earthenware vessels.
(3) The products of the potter's art collectively; pottery-ware,
earthenware.

End of idle moment, back to doing some boring work.
