My question for all you public library CIRCPLUSSERS open Sunday hours is:
How do you staff these hours? Is it voluntary, meaning that only staff
who are interested in working Sunday are scheduled? Or is it staffed
on a strict rotation with ALL staff working several Sundays a year?
And finally, how are you compensated for these hours - I would hope
that no permanent library staff would be required to work Sunday hours
for straight time (pay or comp.time) but knowing library pay-scales as I
do...who knows? ;-)
TIA Lisa

The second and third only the public service staff is schedule to work a
Sunday rotation. It usually amounts to one Sunday a month during the
school year.
In all three cases, the Library paid time and 1/2 for Sunday work. The
library I'm at now, requires as Board Policy time and 1/2 for any work on
Sunday .
Because of the 40 hour standard work week and the mandatory time and 1/2
for overtime based on FSLA our boards deemed it easier and "fairer" to
pay time and 1/2 for any Sundays.

For part-time staff Sunday is treated as extra hours. Part-time staff
are scheduled to work every third Sunday.
