I recently heard this story about legendary London jazz club Ronnie Scott's.
I don't know if it is true, but it is believable:

Apparently, Prince Charles once visited Ronnie Scott's and was taken
backstage to meet the performers and then he met Ronnie Scott himself.
Prince Charles said, "Ronnie, are you paying these Jazz people enough
money?". Ronnie replied, "Yes, I think so, your Royal Highness".
"Well" asked Prince Charles, "Why are they sharing one cigarette?".

On a related note, I went to see Madeleine Peyroux at Terra Blues in NYC one
night and a distinguished looking well dressed couple was in the back. It
turned out it was the UK's former Prime Minister John Major and his wife.

He used to record for King Records. Little Johnny Major and the House of Lords.

I never knew old Johnny Major liked the jazz cigarettes.

NYC wisdom. If you're going to Terra Blues, don't wear good shoes.

There is a problem with the Ladies' Room, which is unfortunately right by
the front door. Think "Rice Paddy."
