Does anyone know about effects of long term antibiotics. After repeated
urinary tract infections my 3 yo has been diagnosed with"fancy name I
have misplaced" meaning her urine is backing up into her kidneys. No
damage yet, but need to prevent infections till she "outgrows" it which
she should. My concern is the long term effects. She has already had
ALOT due to lung problems that she does seem to have outgrown. Now
this!!!!! Surgery is an option, I think? but dont really want to go there
either.

Long term use of antibiotics can cause food alergies. Overgrowth of yeast
in the digestive track for starters.
Antibiotics kill off both good and bad bacteria. In the gut Yeast takes over
when the good bacteria is killed off. The yeast can allow toxins to get into
the blood stream (leaky gut).
A good book to read is the Yeast Connection BY William Crook.
Hope this helps

The potential long-term complications of untreated GU reflux are renal
insufficiency and renal failure as the result of chronic pyelonephritis
and renal scarring from the reflux, and that is the reason prophylactic
antibiotics are used in this situation. Kevin Kramer, MD
