Well, we have been trying to do something similar using a channel adapter
card in a RS/6000-340. We have been working with IBM for about 6 months
and have yet to make a successful connection. My advice to you would be
to either hire a contractor and let them deal with IBM or find a vendor
other than IBM to buy the needed equipment (hardware and software). This
has not been a good experience with IBM, but that is a given when you are
dealing with them. Good luck.

If your ESA/9000 has TCP/IP then you can use the Block Multiplexor Channel
adapter for the RS/6000. You need to purchase the adaptor, a cable, and
some software. You should have a spare channel available on the 9000.
Check with your sales rep for the feature codes; I don't have them readily
at hand.

You can connect it any way you like. We use it over a nice token-ring
lan that als supports our PC as 3270-emulators.

As software you'll need sna server (or was it sna services?). It
supports 3270 and lu 6.2.

If you really want to play, you might try xcom for file transfer,
CICS/6000 to CICS esa communications etc.

We used the IBM Block Multiplexor Adapter. Worked like a charm once we
had the software AND the drivers. We get very good response (much better
than talking through NCP route or with a TCP/IP route through our 3745
which is what we had been using.

IBM was very good at helping to install it and it works very well.
