All,

I am looking for an old IDE hard drive, if one of you have one laying around that isn't going to be used.  I'm even willing to pay a couple of bucks for it. :)

My Christmas present to my (much) younger brother is to replace his current computer (HP 233Mhz running Win98+) with a new one that I've been building out of spare parts.  Last night I managed to mirror their hard drive onto an external USB drive, after finding that the 20GB drive I had installed in the replacement machine was bad.  The idea was to have Ubuntu 8.10 on it with a VM running the copy of their Win98+ drive.

Any drive >= 4GB is required: this would at least allow me to mirror their old drive onto it.  Anything with adequate space to hold Ubuntu along with the 4GB image would be preferrable, as I think he'd enjoy a Linux system much more.

Thanks for your help!

Should have read further. I will check my inventory and let you know
what's available later to day.

Dave,

It seems that Jon will be able to hook me up with a spare that he has.  Thanks anyway, and have a merry Christmas!

I think I've got an 8 gig sitting at home, so you can have that as well.  I just need to wipe it.

I have a 20 gb maxtor available if you need it. I like Xubuntu for older
processors it is designed to run with fewer resources.
Let me know if you want it. I already started running Dban on it before
I checked your e-mail so it is ready to go if you or someone else needs
it.
Merry Christmas
