Has anyone dealt with the laptop HD load cycle count problem? I just
looked at the smartctl -a on my 1/2 year old laptop drive, and YOUCH!
the raw data is 2x (1,383,734) the spec (600,000) for my drive! the
value is 001 and the worst is 000! I'm Concerned! I applied the
hdparm -B 254 (and 255) and -S 0, and the numbers keep climbing!

date && sudo smartctl -F samsung2 -a /dev/sda
Sat Jul 24 15:27:04 CDT 2010
255 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 001 001 000 Old_age
Always - 1383734
date && sudo smartctl -F samsung2 -a /dev/sda

This is with the -B parm as 255! That's an increase in count of 121
in 10 minutes! I'm looking to buy a drive for a friend of mine (who
happens to use Linux) here in Ashley, and I don't want to buy the guy
a problem.
Thanks,
James
