Hey Robert, how carefully did you look at the bigbluebutton project?
I was thinking about trying to implement it, but it has an automated
install process designed for Ubuntu (I only have Fedora boxes). If
you "manually" installed it you have to install config mysql,
asterisk, tomcat, imagemagick, openoffice, etc (15 apps in total). In
my case, these installs overlap with already installed versions of
these applications that I use for different purposes. Seems like it's
designed for deployment in a virtualized environment where you can set
aside a complete Linux VM just for it.

I Did a little search on installing bigbluebutton on fedora and came up with this instruction sheat.

I noted it as interesting and worthy of a closer look and done no more;
so you have taken it way further than I have.

I would also probably have taken the path of least resistance and
installed it on Ubuntu. I certainly would not have done it on Fedora
( we have already had this conversation before, so you know why I would
choose CentOS instead) ;-).

If you get it going, I (and maybe the rest of us) would totally love to
see it in action.

The system looks like a great general purpose collaboration tool.  I've been doing some collaboration online, and this seems like the better solution, even if it is geared for educational institutions.  I'd love to hear more info from anyone that has actually used it (all my info comes from google+their website).

Understood, yup like your ideas on CentOS, I have a Fedora 7 box that
I can't update because the download site EOL'd.

But, I can't really justify setting up a Ubuntu server for just this
purpose, if we had some virtualization installed facing the Internet,
then I'd certainly do it.

So it looks like this might be a longer term project.

Is it worth throwing it on an Ubuntu desktop on your internal network
just to see if it warrants the effort? If you believe it is, then I
would be happy to chip in some time to help you tease it all apart.

Also, alien can convert debs to rpms. Maybe that will help smooth the
way.
