So after seeing Andrews ioio (and his sensor data which is rather cool
but don't tell him) and the arduino kit, I want one.

Was just looking for some recommendations on what board to actually
get as there seems to be loads of various types.

Don't know what I will use it for other than turning pin 13 on and off
again but sure I will think of something.

I've never actually owned an official Arduino, the two PCB copies that
I've made have been Freeduinos:
http://www.nuelectronics.com/estore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1
100% compatible and I've never had any trouble with them.

You COULD make one on a breadboard for around £6, but it's far more
hassle than it's worth at a beginner stage, I recommend a Freeduino!

Hi Gareth,

The ioio has the advantage of being used with old Android devices, I think back to 1.6. There's also ADK boards (including arduino versions) that work I think from Android 2.1 up only (I'd have to check that to be sure though). For arduino/android things I generally use bluetooth so personally I don't have a need for adk, but it would allow you to do normal arduino stuff and use it with android.

It's also so nice to know you don't think I'm a sensor tart any more :-) ;-) :-)

Best wishes,

Andrew.

I'd likely get an Arduino USB host shield from the person who did the initial work:
http://www.circuitsathome.com/arduino_usb_host_shield_projects

and plug that into an Arduino/Freeduino

Or an Arduino ADK, e.g. http://store.arduino.cc/eu/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=144
