Bletchley Park

There was some discussion a while back about a visit to Bletchley Park.

I've just noticed that the MK radio amateur group have moved back there for their annual rally. (For those not familiar with them, a radio rally is a boot sale with a very strong bias for radio and electronic stuff. All sorts of goodies can be found).

Maybe this would be a good opportunity for a visit ?

If you want  a good junk sale, this is the best one I know, but the venue makes the MK one interesting. They used to hold it there years ago but have been at a local primary school recently and it shrank a bit.

There ought to be more links between hackspaces and radio amateurs. OK, some are in the Toiny Hancock mould but radio clubs and model engineering clubs were the hackspaces of the 70s. Still are in some cases.

I agree about radio amateurs.
My grandad made radio's for people when he was young, between the
wars, and he taught me to solder and interested me in electronics.

I am aiming to do a small hands-on Arduino workshop for the
Warwickshire radio amateur club (date to be confirmed).

Part of my interest in Radio Amateurs is so that they can help schools
launch and track 'near space' satellites (like Teddy Bears in Space,
Nova 9 at http://www.srcf.ucam.org/cuspaceflight/media.php). Those
balloons can't transmit the photo's, but they can transmit a GPS
tracking position, and some Radio Amateurs have the equipment to
receive and decode the position, so that the balloons can be recovered
when they land.

I'm interested in visiting Bletchley Park.
