Dear B-A,

Yesterday, I emailed the Victorian DPI to bring to their attention the
matter of them including Mallard on their do not shoot list. I have
just received a response thanking me for bringing the matter to their
attention and that they will update their website "to reflect the
legal status of this duck".

Sorry, Mallards.

Well done, but I wonder if it'll result in many being shot. I would have thought most mallards people encounter are either in areas where shooting isn't allowed, or are domestic stock.

Peter,

Mallards are not silly. They have figured out that it is a better idea
to hang around urban areas and get their food brought to them by the
bag full.

But, given the similar head colour, it might get a few Chestnut Teal
targeted!!

Of course not - all the shooters will have done the ID test and will be
able to tell the difference!
