hrs return in mild sunny conditions. The park is looking wonderful at
present - very green and still plenty in flower, with turpentines and
eucalypts including bloodwoods and a beautiful flowering of peppermints.
Black-faced Monarchs were a bit of a highlight - have not previously
seen numbers like this anywhere before, with over 40 birds seen in c 3
kms (before turning around and seeing about as many again - many prob
the same birds). On three occasions saw groups of 5-7 birds noisily
chasing each other repeatedly through the mid canopy.
Others included Superb Lyrebirds (6 birds seen, one watched mimicking at
least 16 other species), all three scrubwrens inc 3 parties of
Large-billed, Grey Goshawk (2), Rufous Fantail (2), Scarlet Honeyeater
(2). Sacred Kingfisher, Satin Bowerbird and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
were all common. Golden Whistlers are putting on a fantastic vocal
display at the moment - constant all along the track until mid morning.
One unidentified pigeon flushed was prob a Topknot. A large Lace Monitor
also seen drinking at the creek.

Good to know that the Lyrebirds are still around in that area. The first time I ever saw wild Lyrebirds close up was somewhere along lady carrington drive in 1983 or 84. It was a group of about 6 females that walked around our feet ignoring our presence.
