[Birding-Aus] Sydney Park Crimson Chats - dipped

Visited Sydney Park for first time in 7 years this morning. Couldn't find the Crimson Chats, after looking around where I thought was the right area and then more widely through the park for over an hour. I guess I just have to be one of those who dipped this time. Does anyone who regularly visits there know if Yellow-rumped Thornbills are still present? I used to see these there before. Cheers,

They are still at the site and were seen this morning between about 8 and 9 am
by Neville Lazarus, Hal Epstein and me (and I think Trevor Waller had been and
gone before I got there), so perhaps you were a bit early Frank?
They are hanging around in the small planted acacias on the northern and western
shores of the most southerly pond between the walking path and the pond. From
what I saw this morning, they may often be in the trees as well as on the
ground. They are quite flighty, with the female more likely to break before
the male.
Also plenty of Reed Warblers and a Little Grassbird carrying nesting material.
A great bird for my Sydney list, and I didn't even have to drive as the site is
less than 10 minutes walk from St Peters station and I was at work by 9:30.

people and their dogs walking/running by and the chats were very skittish.
Interestingly, my wife, Michele (who is not a bird-watcher), took our own
dog for a walk in Banjo Patterson Park, Gladesville (about 10 km NW of the
Sydney CBD) about 3 weeks ago. Upon returning from this walk she remarked at
how she saw a flock of about six birds there, some of which were crimson in
colour. I couldn't establish the identity of the birds after quizzing her,
so I gave her Simpson & Day to look at. She soon identified the birds as
Crimson Chats. I immediately dismissed her conclusion, but now I'm not so
sure.
We've been back to Banjo Patterson Park about half a dozen times since then
(to take the dog for a walk and to look for the birds), but haven't come
across them again.

Thanks to this useful information from birding aus as well as a birder who pointed me to the right side of the lake (west and north side of the south lake, not the southeast pond). A pair of Crimson Chats were easily found feeding with about 30+ Nutmeg Mannikins.
One would not expect to find any interesting birds at this type of open ground which is more like dogs' playground.

Easy to find because there were 2 birdwatchers and a photographer present.
Just a quick visit to the park with my kids. A Little Grassbird was
calling - I've heard them there previously when I've run through the
park previously. Seemed to be some interesting grebe behaviour going on.
Earlier in the week there was a blackbird calling in Annandale next
to the City-West Link. I think I've heard there before, but its not a
species I see close to the CBD - perhaps I'm just missing them as there
seems to be apparently suitable habitat. There are old records for
the Botanic gardens and this was the site of an unsuccessful? release.
Do they still occur in the Botanic Gardens or nearby?

I spent a couple of hours there this afternoon (skipped uni classes - YAY!)
and they appeared in less than 10 minutes. I also had the great pleasure
of meeting Alan a friend of Keith Brandwoods. Nice chatting with you.

Once again, thanks for all the great info.
I also photographed a lone Black-fronted Dotterel, some Hardheads, bathing
Silver Gulls, heard a Fan-tailed and Channel-billed Cuckoo as well.
I missed the Nutmeg Mannakins though. Ah well. They are out in Cornwallis
Road anyway.
