Hi,

Just wonder if this kingfisher species is seen in the Bushells lagoon area
and if so which part? That is are they (if seen) near the Brewers Lane end
or generally all over? I have seen Azure Kingfisher at Bakers Lagoon, but
not yet at Pitt Town Lagoon. Can anyone let me know if they are residents
at Bushells?

thanks and regards

Akos :)

Hi Akos,

I have seen an Azure Kingfisher on the causeway off the end of Brewers Lane.
That was some years ago.

Hi Akos/everyone,
I have seen Azure Kingfisher at Brewers Rd end and the opposite end of
Bushells and also at Pitt Town where it is rare. Mitchell Park and the jetty
at Cattai Nat Park are reliable locations for this species.

Dear Birding-ausers,

I am attaching a link to my contact from Malaysia who has done some studies on wader's feather wear and moult. A picture speaks thousand words. Hope this makes wader watching more interesting.

Any comment or question please reply to the author David Bakewell. Otherwise I am happy to pass the messages.

Tun-Pin,

Many thanks for that. The animations of the feather wear are great.

Cheers,

Now I have never been good at bird calls - I have been hearing three brief
notes of same high pitch early in the morning here in Inner western Sydney.
Any idea what it is?

Thanks for the input on the mystery three-note early bird caller. Heard it
again this morning. People suggested Noisy Miner, Scarlet Honeyeater, and
Eastern Rosella. It doesn't sound anything like a rosella, and I think it
may be too loud for a Scarlet Honeyeater as it has a loud ringing quality
and sounds as if it is from a fair distance off. I guess my money is on the
miners of which there are many around where I live (fairly urbanised,
although one neighbour has 4 20m high gums in their yard.

Sorry, should have clarified - three close together notes identical in
length and pitch, almost run together.

Hey Cas -

is it three quick, almost run together notes? I read your post and then on
Friday morning sitting at Lewisham train station heard something like that.
The call I heard had 'small bird' written all over it but I could not see
what that bird was.

cheers

storm

Sorry Cas, I haven't followed this thread. Have you eliminated
Striated Pardalote?

Hi Cas

Maybe a New Holland honeyeater?

Another vote here for the Pardalote. Their call volume to body ratio
is ridiculous.
