A postdoctoral position is available to study post-transcriptional
gene regulation during oral cancer development. Two major areas under
investigation are: 1) Analysis of the contribution of an unusual form
of post-transcriptional gene expression, to mRNA metabolism and the
adaptation of mRNA stability and their associated proteins to this
process; and 2) discovery and analysis of small RNAs to analyze small
RNA transcription, maturation, and mechanisms of small RNA gene
regulation in our cell systems.

Experimental approaches include:
1. Mechanistic analysis of RNA stability and decay using RNA
transfection in Oral cancer tumor model.
2. Biochemical, and Molecular biology approach of stability of AU-rich
mRNAs in oral cancer formation.
3. Molecular, biochemical, and bioinformatic analysis of small RNAs
and their biogenesis, target identification, and in vitro analysis of
small RNA biogenesis and mRNA repression with reference to 3’UTR of AU-
rich mRNAs.
4. Genome sequencing and mRNA/miRNA profiling
5. Genetic approaches and RNAi interference in Oral cancer

Applicants must be a recent recipient of a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree,
highly motivated, able to conduct creative, independent research, and
have demonstrated scholarship through publication in internationally
recognized English journals.

Applicants should have significant experience in at least one of the
following:
1. Experience working with cell culture and small animals
2. mRNA translation or decay
3. RNA biochemistry or small RNAs
4. Genomics or Bioinformatics
5. Protein purification, biochemistry, and structure-activity of
recombinant proteins
6. Structural and biophysical analysis of proteins, or
7. Proteomics

Applications will be reviewed immediately.

Applicants should apply by e-mail to vi...@musc.edu

Applications should contain:
1. A letter of application including a short description of research
experience, interests, and goals
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Contact information for three references
4. Start date availability
