Colorado State University, Oklahoma State University, and University of Nebraska researchers, paired with input from a committee of expert breeders, growers, physiologists, and agronomists from some of the top companies in agriculture are offering a short course in plant breeding for drought tolerance June 14-June 25, 2010 in Fort Collins, CO. The course will consist of a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on lab exercises, and field research in a drought breeding program at experimental field sites in Eastern Colorado and Western Nebraska. Prior to the short course, students will complete an online series of instructional modules to provide a common background in breeding and physiology concepts. Students will first review and discuss these concepts and later become skilled at them in hands-on lab and field exercises. The course is designed for professionals in the public and private sectors as well as for graduate students in plant breeding and genetics programs.
