Rethinking Biology and Evolution: New approaches for the new century
O Centro de Filosofia das Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, através do seu grupo de investigação em Filosofia das Ciências da Vida, tem o prazer de anunciar o ciclo de conferências internacional “Rethinking Biology and Evolution: New approaches for the new century”. Este ciclo, a decorrer durante o ano de 2012, irá contar com a participação de especialistas nacionais e internacionais de diversas áreas da biologia que abordarão temas de toda a actualidade e interesse no domínio das ciências da vida. Pretende assim constituir-se como um espaço de reflexão e discussão sobre os desafios científicos e epistemológicos que a biologia tem como tarefa para este novo século. Cada orador convidado fará uma conferência aberta ao público e um workshop sujeito a inscrição.
A primeira conferência realiza-se no próximo dia 20 de Março, pelas 18h00, no grande auditório da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, e será proferida pelo virologista norte-americano Luis P. Villarreal (Center for Virus Research, University of California at Irvine, USA), intitulada “Can viruses make us human? Addiction and social cooperation as viral”. No dia 22 de Março, entre as 15h00 e as 18h00, realiza-se o workshop “Viruses and the Tree of Life: Unending source of self”, destinado a professores, investigadores e alunos dos diferentes ciclos de estudos.

Rethinking Biology and Evolution: New approaches for the new century
The Centre for Philosophy of Science of the University of Lisbon is pleased to announce the international series of conferences "Rethinking Biology and Evolution: New approaches for the new century". This event, ocurring during the year 2012, will have the participation of national and international experts in several areas of biology that will address very relevant and actual issues in the field of life sciences. This series of conference seeks to establish a space for reflection and discussion on the scientific and epistemological challenges that biology has as task for this new century.
The first conference, entitled "Can viruses make us human? Addiction and the viral social cooperation", will take place on March 20th, at 18h00, in the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon, and will be addressed by the American virologist Luis P. Villarreal (Center for Virus Research, University of California at Irvine, USA). On March 22nd will be held the workshop "Viruses and the Tree of Life: Unending source of self", also addressed by Luis P. Villarreal.
