hey
you guys are absolutely right......biochem,biotech,microbio etc are all such research oriented areas that an .M.SC. is so insufficient....i was working in P & G as a research scientist and then i quit it coz my husband had to move ...since then i keep doing something or the other .....i am interested in lecturership too.....coz i have a family to look after...i am chennai based.....if anybody can list some openingshere it wud be great.

u have to open two pdb files in the same layer of swiss pdb viewer..

enable both the domains main chain,sidechain..

then save as single PDB files

Hello everybody,
I am a newcomer to this group and I am a III yr B.Tech Biotechnology
student.
As with all the III yr students now I'm the same dilenma - get a job ?
or go for higher studies?.
For B.tech Biotech students esp. those who did their course in the
private universities this is HELL time. Not all reputed companies aare
coming forward esp.Biotech companies to recruit our course
students. The only reputed companies so far have been all those IT
companies - Infosys , Wipro ,CTS and what not... but no life science
company??. Many colleges now give B.tech Bioinformatics courses  and
these students are more favourable( I think) for the IT companies to
recruit as they have good  programming  knowledge relevant to this
field. What happens to Biotech students ???.
I heard that IT companies recruits students from various branches
( mech , electrical , electronics etc??), give training and depending
on the performance only some those students are taken up by the
company while the remaining are screened out.
Now even if I were to opt to these IT companies during campus
placements I am still a trainee or something but not actually in job
for that company.
Fine, many students opt for  offcampus jobs. Now again the problem is
with this kind of so called multidisciplinary field where exactly are
students like us going to find job - biochemistry , microbiology ,
immunology , biophysics , bioprocess , chemical engg??? - all those
fancy names sounded so good during the years of study and befor
joining  the course. The pharma companies prefer B.Pharm and M.Pharma
better than any one at B.Tech level.Someone may say " we have the
research side open to " .Well the fact is  you need a solid PhD with
good academic bakground to a renumerative position.
Now  again which field you would do masters or PhD
( biochemistry , biotechnology, immunology , computational biology -
yes a PhD in this is what the pharma companies ask for their
research) .There is a bad news - Immunology , Biophysics and these
kind of subjects come under M.Sc degrees in India and not many
institutions offer these courses, so if you don't qualify GATE etc. ,
you are finished.
The good news is obviously with all these philanthropic new
universities coming up you will sure find one  university atleast ,
providing  masters , PhD courses soon( plz check out the list of fake
university updates in the UGC website for further enlightenement).

The problem becomes like you will be taking up academic research work
or industry research .Oh yes , don't you guys know - Biotechnology is
a research oriented subject - the catchy slogan marketed by the
private universities.Fine , you already spent  lacs of rupees now some
more for this masters , PhD ....and then too if  you cannot find a
renumerative job its better to hang oneself.

I appreciate all views on this post.    But   do  speak    up.
