Description: Biochar is defined simply as charcoal used for agricultural purposes. Biochar's many benefits include significantly increased soil fertility, reduced fertilizer run-off and leeching, and reduced nitrous oxide emissions. When added to soil, biochar is a long-term carbon sink.

Funding 
  Biochar is a good idea, but funding of production is open to abuse such as illegal deforestation and failure to replant. Governments should fund sustainable woodland management and composting with additional support for coppice or pollard systems, planting of native (or mixed - say up to 10% non-native) woodlands for biodiversity,... more »

Where can I get simple biochar equipment in the UK?
