If you are interested in joining Ontario Nature, which includes a subscription to award winning ON Nature magazine, visit www.ontarionature.org News from Ontario Nature Workshop on Bioregional Planning for Aggregates Submitted by Tim Hayward, Ontario Nature We had a successful workshop in Uxbridge with 20 people in attendance representing various ENGOs, community groups, conservation authorities, and government. The morning consisted of presentations from Ontario Nature, MNR and Green Durham, followed by an afternoon discussion period. A follow-up workshop is planned for April to further define concerns, and promote opportunities to integrate aggregates with natural heritage systems planning to maintain the integrity of the hydrology and ecology of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Signs of Spring at Downsview Park Submitted by Sarah Hedges, Ontario Nature The YMCA Newcomer Youth Leadership Development Program joined our Nature Guardians program and Evergreen on Tuesday March 13 to help get Downsview Park in Toronto ready for the spring season. The 35 young participants helped restore a community tree nursery by spreading mulch and removing invasive species and litter while learning about local urban agriculture projects at the park. Wildlife sightings included a coyote, killdeer, red-tailed hawk, robins and geese. Spring is certainly in the air! Our Special Spaces Earth Day Concurrent Event Submitted by Sarah Hedges, Ontario Nature April 21 marks the second annual Our Special Spaces Earth Day Concurrent Event. Organized and run by the Ontario Nature Youth Council, this unique initiative involves multiple conservation activities happening on the same day in various locations across the province, all in celebration of Earth Day. This year's Our Special Spaces event will involve activities in Thunder Bay, Sarnia, Barrie, Kingston, Guelph, and the Greater Toronto Area.
