Don,
I would suggest (maybe) Raul Ponce-Hernandez, D. Phil., Associate
Professor of the Environmental Program, Department of Geography,
Trent University. [?]
Raul had done a research project: "Carbon budget and the effects
of Biochar and poultry manure on biomass and yield for soybeans"
It was an experiment using poplar wood as the feedstock for the
pyrolysis process, and he tested the interactions between biochar
and poultry manure (as far as plant nutrient flows and the effects
on biomass and yields of soybeans).
A full "carbon budget" was also performed, including energy
feedstocks for the pyrolysis and biochar production.
I don't know what was the outcome of those experiments (that
started in ~2009).
I don't know if you were, rather, looking to find some way to
"sanitize" the poultry manure, therefore saving on tipping fees, and
possibly turning it into a saleable "fertilizer". This is another
matter entirely.
P.S. I actually read somewhere that Activated carbons may even be
produced by carbonization of poultry manure. If you do complete
pyrolysis of the manure followed by 'activation' of the carbonized
manure, the carbons have been shown to exhibit enhanced activity for
metal ion adsorption -- a material that is principally intended to
remove heavy metals from contaminated groundwater... (and will
actually 'consume' the chicken litter ~ i.e. reduce the weight and
volume and eliminate pathogens).
I am copying the Biochar-Ontario group [members] on my reply, as
requested.

The Poultry Industry Council is holding a conference during November in St Catherine's, ON. They
are looking for a speaker to talk about innovative ways to
handle poultry manure. I hope someone from the BioChar
community is available to discuss the BioChar option.
Nutritional advancements made at Walleinstein Feed lowering
litter moisture content should make the BioChar option even
more viable than it we realize.
If we can get a committment from a speaker in the next
week or so, there is a good chance we can get on the agenda.
I have forwarded information regarding the conference.

Hi
Everyone,
Here
are the notes from the previous Producer Update
planning session and potential agendas for each
of the events.
Please
take a look at them, and for those of you that
attended the meeting if you see anything missing
please let me know.
We
would like to schedule the next planning session
for the end of June (June 19, 21 or 22)
At this
meeting, we would like you all to come with
suggestions for speakers (and their contact info
if possible) for each of the topics; people that
you think would make a good presentation on that
topic/subject. Then we will begin contacting the
speakers to get more of the planning process
done.
Thank
you for your help so far!
If you
are unable to make it, please feel free to email
me any ideas for specific speakers/topics or
interactive components.
Thanks,
