The San Mateo city council will have a study session on January 17th to discuss a Caltrans project to reconfigure the El Camino/Highway 92 interchange. They call it an "improvement" project, but we all know what that means. If you think that the result might not be an improvement for bicyclists and pedestrians you might want to send an email to the council or testify. Here are their addresses: http://www.cityofsanmateo.org/index.aspx?nid=166

The staff report on this project is here:

Cycling on ECR under the highway has always been a pain in the ass. This may be an opportunity to improve it for cyclists. The key phrases for an email are "Grand Boulevard", "AB 1358 Complete Streets Act", and "Caltrans DD-64-R1." Anytime Caltrans reworks roads it must now consider all of the users of those roads.

Thanks Mark for letting us know about this.

I live near the ECR and 92 interchange and currently due the high speed off ramps from 92 it is a race for both pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the traffic going and off 92. I read the description you linked to and it sounds likes this would be a big improvements by replacing the ramp/lanes with traffic signals.

If you want we could meet at this intersection take some pictures and notes and put together something for the website to show and describe the current situation and then put together our suggestions for what would be needed to make this pedestrian and bicycle friendly. I can help with this, but I think you know more than me about this issue, so I would need you to put most of it together.
