Couldn't staff the Hillsdale energizer station this year because I stupidly scheduled a morning dentist appointment. Since my dentist is way out in east Foster City, I did get to ride to work on the bay side of 101 down to Menlo Park. Hadn't done that in a while. Two things popped out of that ride.

First, I'm totally annoyed all over again with SamTrans about the Pico Blvd gate foolishness. Turning right from Twin Dolphin onto Redwood Shores Parkway and having to cut over three lanes if you want to keep going south is just idiotic. Until Simon's gone, I don't see any hope. Might be time to open up a dialog with Redwood City about the unused path next to Pico. Get in the queue for TDA-3/TA funding in 2013. Either that or buying a good pair of bolt cutters....

Second, there are paved paths on both sided of the bridge-to-nowhere! That's awesome. Probably been there since they started construction on the housing development near the bridge and I just didn't know about them. If you haven't ridden down that way for a while, check them out. Much, much easier than the rutted dirt paths that used to be there. Were these part of the development agreement?

Thanks Mark,
As to the BTN pavement on the approaches...yeah...it's been there since
last fall...

John Murphy reported the east side pavement on these email lists about the
same time I discovered it, which I'm guessing was either August or early
September.

IIRC the west side (Docktown) paving happened considerably later, I think
after I broke my ankle on Sep 24th. I first checked that out on crutches
after my accident.

Both were done as part of the Paul Powers development...but as far as I
know there was no "agreement" to do so...I believe it was merely a
good-will gesture done when they had the blacktop equipment in the area.

Cheers,
Paul Wendt

In order to pursue development (or redevelopment, if you will) of the state owned paths, which in my opinion is the wisest way to go, it behooves you to ask RWC to be the project sponsor to repave if needed...I haven't been out there in years...and agree to future maintenance.  It is not difficult for RWC to get an encroachment permit from the State.  This is the kind of connection project that c/cag would vote to fund when the joint call for projects comes out this year for the 2013 cycle.

RWC staff comment about the path -- yes, it is state right of way.

Mark
My two cents about Pico is that if any energy is to be exerted at all about
it, going after either of those old paved paths (on each side of the creek)
makes the most sense to me.  A while back, I used the airport property maps
to see who owned that land:  It is state property.

I also rode those new paving's on the bridge to nowwhere last month.
Followed the Google riders one morning (could not keep up for long though).
They seem to know about everything don't they?
