Charlotte Bike Commuter's Lunch - Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Uptown bike commuters will be getting together for LUNCH earlier than normal this month at Lola's on Brevard on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm or so.  This will allow us to get together during this year's Bike!Charlotte event.  Lola's on Brevard is located at the corner of S. Brevard St. and Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd, diagonally across the street from the NASCAR museum.  While I'm sure most of us will be walking there from our offices, if you think to, please bring your helmet, and if you are the first to arrive, grab a table and place your helmet in the middle so the rest of us will see you. If you are not first, look for the table with the helmet in the middle.  If you're a new bike commuter, or want to learn how you can get started, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet other bike commuters and ask them questions.  

Bike!Charlotte continues this week, and the BIG EVENT is the Mayor's Bike Ride, which will is a short ride with hundreds of cyclists from the Charlotte area running from the Dowd Y on Morehead St. to the Wells Fargo Plaza on S. Tryon St., where you'll be treated to a wonderful breakfast catered by Ruth Chris.  The ride leaves the parking lot BEHIND the Dowd at 7:30 am.  If you've never experienced riding with a large number of cyclists who get to "own the road" while being escorted by bicycle police, this is an event you will want to be a part of!    

  

May 8th is the NC primary election. Don't forget to get out and vote.  Many decisions impacting cycling infrastructure are made at the state level.  In addition, the Mecklenburg County Commissioners, who allocate the budget for the Parks and Rec Dept., which is responsible for building and maintaining the greenway infrastructure, are up for election.  Take the time to learn more about the candidates, then take the time to exercise this wonderful privilege we have to participate in our governance.
