We will also discuss this at our Thursday night meeting at Fellini's, 7:30 pm.

Dear BikeDecatur,

Greetings from Georgia Bikes and Happy Bike Month!

We are excited about all the great things happening for cycling in Georgia, and we are fully committed to improving bicycling conditions throughout the state.

Indeed, 2012 has been busy year for us. We put on another hugely successful Ride to the Capitol, hosted a great 2nd annual statewide Bike Summit, and we successfully stopped a proposed single-file riding bill in the state Senate. Our ongoing programs include our popular Seed Grants, Signage Grants, police training, and regular updates and news of interest to Georgia's cycling communities. Looking ahead, we're expanding our advocacy efforts with the DOT and hosting the first ever two-state Bike Summit this October 20th in Augusta.

Our movement is strong, and we have public opinion and momentum on our side. Georgia will be a bike friendly state, but we need your help to make it happen. I'm writing to offer you the opportunity to build a bike friendly Georgia by becoming a Partner with Georgia Bikes.

Joined together, Georgia Bikes, bicycling clubs, advocacy groups, retailers, and manufacturers can implement meaningful changes to state policies and the built environment. United, we can ensure that bicycling becomes a safe & comfortable option for recreation, transportation, and better health for all of Georgia's residents and visitors.

For full details on our Partnership program, please visit http://georgiabikes.org/index.php/support/42-contribute/127-partnerships.

We understand it's a tough economy, so if you can't support us financially, we appreciate your continued help promoting our message and events. We also welcome you to submit a breakout session proposal for the 2012 Georgia-lina Bike Summit - share your local victories with fellow cycling supporters from GA and SC this October in Augusta.

Thanks for your time, and feel free to contact us to discuss how we can make Georgia a bicycle friendly state!

All best & safe riding,

Brent A. Buice

$350 would be a OK expense if it was a one time membership. Yearly, I am not sure we want to collect for this. Also I noticed that the Georgia Bikes website has our advocate group listed, but the link goes to the city of Decautur/Bike Decatur page. Should we get them to also/replace with our google page link?

I dropped by a little before 8:00 and no one was around, so I circled
the Square looking for any activity. Memo to self: don't make left
turns in Decatur. Sorry I missed that Dancing Goats coffee. I found
energy at Five Points with Crystal, Rebecca, and others. Miriam, you
need to get together with Rebecca (Serna).

Next time.

TL.

I was by the Decatur Energizer station at 715 and only Greg White and Cheryl Brunette were there. We took some pictures but the shoo wasn't open, no coffee, no pastries.

The 6am Archers group stopped by at 7 after their ride and there were several riders that came by while out there waiting. It was good to see the riders supporting it.

Definitely worth exploring.  I would like to see Scott Blvd/L'ville Hwy from W. Ponce de Leon fork to Suburban Plaza included in study.

By Georgia law my bicycle is a vehicle, entititled to use its
roadways. To put it mildly, I do not favor the idea of putting bikes
on sidewalks.

One more opinion- multiuse paths are a great idea and I support exploration of this idea. As we learned from the Church street project a multi use path allows bikes protection from cars while still moving fast, unlike a regular sidewalk. Plus, bikes are not banned from the street in that scenario....those who feel comfortable can still ride between the cars. Example is the path to Stone Mtn, it's your choice where you ride.
