Biking meeting on Clairemont Ave May 30th at 8am

Hi everyone,
We will be meeting with Hugh Saxon at the intersection of Clairemont Ave and Erie to walk the sidewalks and review possible options for biking safety improvements.  Please join us if you have an interest in improving biking on Clairemont.  One of the options to be discussed is whether one of the sidewalks could be converted into a "cycle track."

WHO is meeting with Hugh? It is not Bike Decatur. This is the first I've heard about this.

   Tough nut to creack, that bike way from Decatur to BikeSouth/Publix shopping area/emory.

To follow up on one thought, I remembered the name of Skyler Lawes who was hit by a passing motorist, I believe some 5 or 10 years ago. He was at crosswalk, as a school srudent and was waived on to cross Clairmont by a well meaning motorist at crosswalk, and then sucker punched by the impatient motorist behind the first who waived him on.

He passed the first car and stuck the student who ran thru the crosswalk...perhaps.

Of course Paul Taylor was killed while cycling on N Decatur last April 2012, near Superior.  Father of 5 kids, tri-athelete, BBQ king of Oak Grove UMC church event master, Emory/Grady PA etc, etc.

Perhaps these personal stories would be helpful in garnering support for donation of 2 or 3 feet of right of way towrds putting a wider ped/bike/multi use path on clairmont. Or other solution ???....that consultants arrive at.

Some promotion towards softening resistance to the "taking" of residents efforts to ease the living on a busy street...of their flower/shrub etc plantings.

I agree, Gardner -- these personal stories are very important and I'm guessing that telling them will raise support for cycling infrastructure even more. It was very inspiring to see all those people out so early in the morning to work on improving our cycling routes!
