Bike Lane Planning    

 

To plan for bike lanes, we are taking stock of the condition of roads which could potentially have bike lanes. This page currently tracks possibilities. It is not meant as a recommendation.

As a reference, we provide these standard federal lane widths:

 

Road Element Width
Standard through traffic lane 11 feet
Standard parking lane 8 feet
Standard bike lane 5 feet
Standard center turn lane 12 feet
Possible gutter 1.5 feet
Possible buffer* 3 feet
* The possible buffer zone is between parked cars and the bike lane, to prevent "dooring" and allow for possible snow piles in winter.

This sounds great, and I would be interested in getting involved with
you Mark. I will go ahead and throw this out there for those of you
wishing to commute to the north end of town via Chester Blvd: I
commute to IU east as Mark and a couple other people have recommended-
by taking the cardinal greenway up to industries and then industries

The plans for the new Chester were set before I got involved in bike
advocacy, and it appears preliminary construction has already begun
based on them. The Mayor tells me there there are sidewalks in the
plan, but not bike lanes.
One of the factors here is that the possible width of the road here is

what's the scoop on Chester Blvd? any chance of bike lanes? i seem to
remember you posting about that, but couldn't find it on the site
