I installed on Ubuntu server 11.04, and it seemed to work fine.
Haven't upgraded, since this is the LTS release.

We (the core developers) develop, build, and test on Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit and 64-bit.  We recommend you install on this version of Ubuntu as we haven't done any testing on other versions.

Hi Fred,

Since vmware esxi 5.1 doesn't support ubuntu server 10.04.
So what your recommendation for the server if I want to implement BBB
version 0.80...??
wait new version of BBB...??
when BBB version 0.81 would be released..??

Thank you,

Hi Fajar,

Since vmware esxi 5.1 doesn't support ubuntu server 10.04.

Hmmm ... that doesn't make sense ... are you saying that VMWare ESXi doesn't allow you to run a virtual machine that is running Ubuntu 10.04?  I googled and found the manual at

and it states it supports Ubuntu 10.04.

version 0.80...??

Yes, we recommend you run version 0.80 as that is the current release.

wait new version of BBB...??
> when BBB version 0.81 would be released..??

The upcoming 0.81-beta will also require Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit or 64-bit.  We intend to update the packaging to Ubuntu 12.04 in a release subsequent to 0.81 final.  See

Hi Fred,

Actually our environment is using ESXi 5.1. I also was check that only
ubuntu desktop 10.04 still supported. you can find information in this
link.

http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=software&testConfig=16&productid=10731&releaseid=171&supRel=171,&deviceCategory=software&releases=171&operatingSystems=20&testConfigurations=16&page=1&display_interval=10&sortColumn=Partner&sortOrder=Asc&testConfig=16

I also confused which one is valid. but anyway we'll try to running
ubuntu server 10.04 on esxi 5.1.
I also already install BBB in ubuntu server 10.04... BBB is working
normaly but using pyhsical server. A many thanks for you and teams for
creating BBB.

Thanks for your supporting.

I have plenty of Ubuntu 10.04 VM's running on ESxi 5.1, including the
one that runs BBB.

Farar, Did you download the VM with preconfigured .08, or are you
trying to install bbb with a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 vm instance.

If its a fresh instance, you need to make sure the prerequisites are
met. I have seen this error when the source packages or locales are
not properly configured.

Take a look on the wiki for installing bbb, it shows you how to check
before proceeding with install.

Dear Stephen,

Thanks for quickly respond.
I'm using fresh instance, not download the VM with preconfigured .08.
When I check it again, I failed when testing "install hello".
My internet connection using proxy server.

Thanks for your supporting.

root@DIT1160:~# gem -v
1.3.7
root@DIT1160:~# sudo gem install hello
