Hi folks,

I'm trying to setup the bigbluebutton071a-vm on the VirtualBox 4.0.4
and in initialization, the VM doesn't start, display a message about
some problem, asks for view the log, and shutdown. In the log, what i
could find that almost looks like an error is this:

00:00:02.168 Console: VM runtime error: fatal=false,
errorID=Ext4PartitionDetected message="The host I/O cache for at least
one controller is disabled and the medium '/home/gabriel/projetos/
4linux/bbb/bigbluebutton071a-vm/disk0.vmdk' for this VM is located on
an ext4 partition. There is a known Linux kernel bug which can lead to
the corruption of the virtual disk image under these conditions.
00:00:02.168 Either enable the host I/O cache permanently in the VM
settings or put the disk image and the snapshot folder onto a
different file system.
00:00:02.168 The host I/O cache will now be enabled for this medium"

I search on the internet and some people tell to mark the SATA
Controller checkbox, in the VM's configuration. But it had no effects.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
Do anyone have an idea what this problem is?

Thanks,
Gabriel

Hi Gabriel:

I think you are trying to start a VMWare machine in VBox.
I don't know exactly if this two products are compatible.

You may have 3 options:

1) Use VMWare software to use the bbb virtual machine
2) Convert vmware machine to vbox machine
3) Creato a Vbox from scratch

Hope I help you...

I am currently running the VM in VBox without any conversion needed.

I'd look more at the error thrown and less at converting the vm.

Hi Michael:

Are you using the vdisk or the entire vmachine?

Thanks for reply, i tried to forward the vm install process page,
http://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/wiki/BigBlueButtonVM.
At the bottom of the page, it's explain that the vmware image works in
virtualbox. I don't know why the VM is complaining.
The VirtualBox are configuring a SATA Controller, i've tried to
remove this controller and create an IDE, but it didn't work yet.
Some other idea?

Thanks,
Gabriel

I set this up just this morning using the following guide:

I downloaded the VM zip file, unpacked it, and selected the *vmdk

Note, I am using and older version of VB (3.1.8 I believe - I saw that there was an updated version available, but I knew my other VMs were running fine, so I skipped it - I am using the newest VM though: bigbluebutton071a-vm.zip)
