Hello,

I have installed BigBlueButton, but when accessing the demo at 142.54.180.133 and entering a name and joining I continuously get the message "Connecting to the server......" and then it says "Sorry, we could not connect the the server...". What is wrong here? I can access the demo on http://bigbluebutton.org just fine without error, so I know it is not my local firewall. Could it be something on the server? Feel free to join on that server and help me get this solved.

Scott,

I just tried to connect to that IP and I could start up a meeting fine.

Ok, so that would mean it is my local machine. That's odd. Any suggestions?

Hi Scott,
I just tried connecting to your server on 142.54.180.133 from my
computer here, and it joined the demo meeting right away with no issues.
I could actually see you in the meeting as well when I connected.

Are you still having issues with connecting, or have you resolved them?

I disabled my Firewall. I am assuming it need sport 1935 open on my local machine to connect, correct?

Alright. I have it working now. Can you tell me how I can make the "Welcome to BigBlueButton" screen not show up in the whiteboard for every new meeting? Is there a setting somewhere?

Thanks

You only need to allow *outgoing* connections on ports 1935, 80 (and for
desktop sharing, 9123). You do not need to allow incoming connections.

If you can connect to demo.bigbluebutton.org, your firewall is probably
alright, so this is a bit confusing :)

It might be helpful if you can grab some information from the Flash
client logs on your machine. Try editing the config.xml on your sever to
set `showLogButton="true"`, so you can see the debug logs from the
connection attempt. (There will be a new button added to the bottom bar
that you can click to see the logs)
https://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/wiki/ClientConfiguration
has the defails on the file location and where to edit it.

After editing the file, you will need to clear your browser cache before
attempting to reconnect.

There isn't a setting for this, but it's pretty easy to change. Simply
replace the file /var/www/bigbluebutton-default/default.pdf with a
replacement welcome page.

If you want to start with a blank screen, you will have to use a
one-page blank pdf.

After replacing the default presentation, restart BigBlueButton with
`bbb-conf --restart` and you should be set.

(I'm suprised this isn't in the FAQ, actually; I'll look into adding it)
