Hi BBB community,

In this Google Group, I've seen a guide on how to change BBB's video recording path to an external hard drive. However I'm wondering if Ubuntu lets you map a UNC path. I have a 160GB BBB server on the way, which will be recording lots of video. We have a 2TB NAS which it'd be nice to be able to store videos on.

The BBB server & NAS are connected via a gigabit ethernet, I am hoping this throughput is sufficient for real-time capture.

I am pretty basic in Linux, so please go easy on me!
We are building an audio-visual presentation space to connect to sustainability activists and forums in major towns in Tasmania. BBB will be at the centre of our education  & workshop network setup. Thanks for your contribution to this worthy goal :)

Carl,

The temp audio/video files can be recorded on primary system disk, and
then link over just the the /var/bigbluebutton/published directory to
the NAS. There are cron entries to periodically clean out these temp
files so you never run out of space.

In theory, this should be possible to do; Ubuntu is capable of mounting
a Windows (cifs protocol) file server. There are some instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently that can probably
get you started; once the share is mounted, it would be much like
configuring BigBlueButton to use an alternate local drive.

I don't think this has ever been tested with a windows file server; it's
entirely possible that you could hit strange permissions or performance
issues. Make sure you test it, and let us know how it goes.
