I've had BBB up and running via a Moodle plugin for a few months now. Occasionally, I'm unable to connect or start a BBB (on a separate server) session within Moodle.

Some days, it connects perfectly; other days, the Moodle page waits...and waits...with "Logging in as moderator ..." displayed.

Any ideas as to why I'm having intermittent connectivity issues?

Thanks,

Curtis

Hi Curt,

Is there any pattern to the inability to connect?  When it happens, are you able to connect directly to your BigBlueButton server (via the API examples) to see if the issue is with the integration.

Interested in figuring out why there are times you can't connect.

Regards,... Fred

I can connect to the server via web browser and ssh. What or where are the API examples?

I thought I had things integrated nicely, demonstrated BBB from within Moodle to my boss and a few faculty but, for whatever reason, I'm unable to connect today. Strange thing is, I'll probably be able to connect tomorrow. It's all very intermittent.

I've checked with our network admin. He believes that the issue is not network related.

Fred is referring to the API Demos. You can temporarily add the demo pages to your BBB server and see if you can connect. "sudo apt-get install bbb-demo" should install the demos if you don't already have them installed. Then go to http://<yourserver>/demo/demo1.jsp, put in your name and try to join.

Installed the API Demos. I was able to connect, logged directly into our BBB server successfully.

However, I'm unable to log into a BBB session via Moodle. It's the Moodle plugin that appears to be...sporadic insofar as connecting to the BBB server.

You read my mind, Fred. Went to get the information and saw your post when I got back into the group.

Currently, we are at Moodle 2.4.4 (Build: 20130513).

Thanks,
cd

Still unable to connect within Moodle this morning. Looks like my BBB connectivity issues aren't as sporadic as they've been...

Curt, I would ssh to bbb server and watch log file in /var/log/nginx
to see if moodle is even making a create call to bbb server. You
should see it. when you click activity in moodle.

Thank you all (Fred, Jesus, Stephen) for your help and support.

I've narrowed the issue down to a port or firewall setting, likely from the company that host our Moodle server (Remote-Leaner). I'm communicating with their support staff now.

I built a small test Ubuntu Moodle server, installed the BigBlueButton module/plugin and connected to our BBB server with no hesitation whatsoever.

I'm confident that my connectivity woes will be a thing of the past soon.

Thanks again!

Curtis
