Friends,

I have notice in the \firstuser\var\bigbluebutton directory that there are folders being created and wonder if these are safe to remove?

Each folder is a long set of alpha-numberic strings.

Please advise.

Thank You,

Dave

HI Tvos,

You can enable

  /etc/cron.daily/bigbluebutton

(edit and remove the exit) and then the server will automatically remove presentations older than one day.  We don't have this enabled by default because if there is a problem with archiving the recording, you'll be unable to re-run the ingest and processing scripts, but if you are not using the recording, then enable the above crontab file.

Regards,... Fred

just to be clear, remove the whole line or just the word "exit"?

I also noticed the command posted in the faq about the cron and purging the presentations.
sudo chmod +x /etc/cron.daily/bigbluebutton

So basically, this is just a temp location to backup presentations? Will there be any problems removing all the contents in the directory?

Appreciate the help!

Thank You,

Dave

Hi Dave,

If you google

  basic unix scripting

you'll get lots of good tutorials on how shell scripts work.  Give yourself a chance to learn how scripting works.  With Google, you'll save yourself time waiting for one of us to volunteer our time to answer basic Unix questions.

We tend not to give out help on basic commands as its very easy for someone to do something wrong if they don't understand what they are modifying.

There's no backup involved in this command ... it's going to remove old presentations.  Also google "unix find" to understand what's happening.  And you definitely don't want to remove the contents of the entire directory!

Hi Fred,

Oh trust me on this one, the last week google has been my friend with everything linux related..:..;-)  Years ago, I was doing a IT client job for data security and their environment is linux. At one time, I was really good with the commands, getting my way around the OS and comfortable. Flash forward about 7 years later, it's all coming back due to not exercising commands.

I do appreciate your advise and helps. It does make a difference and becomes easier understanding BBB and Linux.

All the best Fred,

Dave
