Cisco lauched a new iOS webEX app for iPad
http://www.macnn.com/articles/10/12/06/brings.video.hosting.options/

There is a youtube video demo too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58b_pVFq2Ko&hd=1

It is possible to make an iOS app for bigbluebutton co-existing with the standard Flash web user interface?
Maybe with some backend code add-ons on the server?
I thought if maybe the bigbluebutton official development team design the iOS backend support architecture and the we can pay for a third party company to write the code (open source code) for the bigbluebutton foundation. Maybe with a specific iOS App donation campaign on the bbb main site, we can pay for the app.

Maybe not, just an idea.

Hi Pablo,

Thanks for sharing this. Cisco is a great company, and they been
working on WebEX for many years.

It's definitely of interest to the core development team to create an
iPad interface. See

http://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/wiki/IdeasPage#iPhone/iPad_Client

And this is an area where the open source community can definitely
contribute. But, at the moment, we're pretty focused right now on
implementing record and playback, see:

http://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/wiki/RoadMap

So, if there was an individual/group that wanted to start working on
an open source iPad application for BigBlueButton in parallel, you
would have our support.

Regards,... Fred

Hi Pablo,

We'd be impressed to if BigBlueButton could actually run on an iPad.

Is this the SkyFire browser?  Is it running BigBlueButton on the iPad or on the cloud?

Regards,... Fred

No Fred, i tested on skyfire browser, but it only can do flash videos.

Awesome.
I saw the video webcam from another user. It was fast. I think it is cloud processed and then streamed to the ipad browser/client.

The website doesnt explains how it works, but i think it is cloud processed. When im using the Safari browser, i run the sunspider javascript benchmark and got a 2240ms result on the new ipad and iphone4s. Using this browser i got 380ms.

But indeed it is puffin and it runs content on cloud and I must say that quality can degrade quite often and as a intensive ipad user I say that it happens. Much more handy would be if we had an App on Adobe Air or smth

I agree with you. A native client will be the best performance and user experience choice for the iOS platform.
But, there is a popular saying in brazil that says:

"half for those who have nothing, is double."

A webrtc solution might be useful for the 1.0 release

Hi Alex,

At the moment, we're pretty focused on finishing BigBlueButton 0.8.  We've got an HTML5 client on our roadmap, see

Believe us, we can clearly see the trend towards HTML5 and want to make sure we can provide the BigBlueButton community with an HTML5 client (see above link).  Don't worry if it's not listed as 1.0 or not -- we'll be updating the road map after we finish the planning for the next release.

While WebRTC is the long-term, we're also pragmatics: the benefit right now of Flash is it just works.

The challenge with iOS is they don't support flash, and it's unclear if Apple is going to provide direct support for WebRTC. Other companies are exploring iOS with WebRTC, see

Ideally, when we create a WebRTC client, then it would work on all browsers that support WebRTC, which starts with Chrome and FireFox, and (hopefully) expands to Safari and IE.  See also

In the meantime, I'm going to try out this puffin browser on an iPad!

Hi Pablo,

We just tried it out the Puffin web browser on an iPad.  Did you manage to get the sound working?

We can join a BigBlueButton session, but at the moment we can't hear or transmit audio from within BigBlueButton.

I didn get the audio working too. But i think if the webcam video downstream works, the audio can work too.
I will contact the puffin support and ask for ios camera and mic access on their browser.
