Hello, I'm Bruno A. and I'm elaborating my proposal right now,

Here it is: http://docs.google.com/View?id=0AZzVo_LQzTSiZGdrdzdnNHpfMGYyZ2pkNmc2

I'm using this discussion topic to give and get more information about
how do i pretend to develop that tool.

From the begining, the questions are:

1 - What is better here, client or server translating?
Answer: Simple, but good question. Lets analyze.

2 - Will the user be able to activate and deactivate this feature?
Answer: Yes.

3 - Every message have to be translated for every user in the
conference?
Answer: No. There will be native/fluent users in some languages.

I'm thinking about to implement to flash and HTML 5 (in partnership
with the one responsible).

I read about Adobe Flex and I'm thinking about use it to develop a
solution for flash version.
I have to learn more about HTML5 for a solution idea. (Any tips?)

Hi Bruno,

Glad that you are interested in participating in the GSoC.

Please submit your proposal to the GSoC website.

Others have discussed the idea on the mailing list. I suggest you
browse through them to get ideas on how you might go about solving the
problem.

Hi Bruno,

Nice to see people from Brazil applying. One of the bbb developers is from Brazil - I think in the south somewhere near Porto Alegre.
Anyways, thanks for the proposal! I'd suggest putting some more detail in the actual proposal part of the application. Search the mailing list archives for other threads on the chat project - it might give you good ideas and suggestions.

It's so hard to see brazilians applying to gsoc, I fell glad knowing
that. Porto Alegre is a great city.
Thank you for the feedback.
I have a question that is : what kind of details do you mean?
I have some exams this week, so I'm trying to get noticed how much as
I can about the project and the technologies envolved.
I've downloaded ubuntu today and I want to install the OS to begin
some tests too.
Any sugestions for a specific tecnology?
I'm thinking about Adobe flex more than other tecnologies, I saw some
very interesting solutions using it.

Yea, the bbb client is built using Adobe Flex. You can try playing around with Flex. Also try installing bigbluebutton on your ubuntu OS either from packages or from source. There are instructions on how to do this on the google code wiki.

I'm studying flex and actionscript. I'm thinking about to implement
some code at the server side, because i just can't auto translate at
the client side.
I want to solve it translating every word directly for the client's
language requested, for each client.

Hi Bruno,

Take a look at the Google Language API. Using that you should be able to translate from the client side by calling the API directly. It also has a neat auto-translate feature that tries to guess the input language.

Thank you, i got it.
I was thinking wrong. It's better to translate when receiving the msgs
because the api can recognize the language recept.
That api is amazing haha.. It's doing the hard work!
Thank you for that, I'm a little busy with some exams this week, but
learning is always great.

I've made some modifications in my proposal (link at the top).
I'm learning a lot about flex, AS3 and HTML5 specifications.
=)
