I still have 70 of these left, and no particular reason to keep them
since all the 1MB boards have either been upgraded or sold. I've
checked Farnell, and the cheapest 8MB flash chips retail for £2.88,
Farnell order code 1201490, which makes them worth about 200 quid
tops.

On this basis I will offer them as a job lot for £100. Please contact
me if interested. Note that these are completely unused, untouched,
and have not been outside their protective packaging grid.

thanks,
Biff.

Hi Biff,
how can i get my 1MB board updated to 8MB?
Soldering the flash wouldn't be the problem, but i'm not sure if
reflashing the bootloader via JTAG is easy or not...

Yep, you will need jtag to flash an 8 Mb. capable version of biffboot
and biff must be prepared to supply you with such a version if you
give him your current 1 Mb. bb mac address. I guess he will do that if
you buy biffjtag (comes with a year's updates of biffboot) or buy his
stash of idle chips :-)

Reflashing is very easy if you have the genuine RDC flasher tool. It
can flash the full 8 Mb. and is clever enough not to flash unused
sectors (i.e. non changed or all FF or 00), i.e. it is reasonably
fast. This tool can be found on the net and requires a xilinx
compatible parallel programmer (max. 15 euro in eBay, parallel III
compatible).

Biff sells Biffjtag but it can only flash 1 Mb. so with Biffjtag you
have to flash an 1 Mb. max. image with an 8 Mb. capable biffboot in
the top 64 Kb. of that image and then use biffjtag to flash this image
to an 8 Mb. board. Bit awkward but it works.

I guess there is some little voice in Biff's mind telling him that
Biffjag really needs to be made capable of flashing the full 8 Mb. now
that only 8 Mb. boards are available ;-)

I was at one point offering an upgrade service for people who didn't
want to buy the Jtag software, or who had trashed their bootloader but
not a single person took up the offer, so I eventually removed the
page from the website! If you're prepared to send me the board and
paypal me some money I guess I can do it as a one-off.

You have to be sure there are no shorts though, which are pretty easy
to get when soldering something with pins that close together. I use
a combination of a microscope and the jtag software to test if the
upgrade is OK, but sometimes that doesn't work, and I have to resort
to a resistance meter and a couple of pins for the stubborn ones!

cheers,
Biff.

Hi Biff,
how much is in your eyes "some money"?
If the difference ( 2x shipping + "some money") to the Dual-USB
Bifferboard (~ 50 Pound with shipping) isn't too much i would better
decide to buy the new Dual-USB Board, which has lots of advantages for
my needs (all fits in the flash, no need for this annoying USB-Hub for
wireless and the rootfs (-; )
Regards
Chris
