Problems using the "new" data cable (with that switch-box) under Mac OSX Lion

Hi All,

My colleague gave me a USB/Serial cable to connect to the BB, but I
can't seem to get Lion to recognize it as tty.usbserial or equivalent.
I tried a Silicon Labs 201x VCP driver (as it says it is a Silicon
Labs USB Data Cable) and the official Prolific 2303 driver, both do
not recognize the cable.

Any tips? No errors/mentions in dmesg, in ioreg it says
+-o USB Data Cable@fa140000 <class IOUSBDevice, id 0x100000427,
registered, matched, active, busy 0 (1879 ms), retain 8>
| | | +-o IOUSBCompositeDriver <class IOUSBCompositeDriver,
id 0x10000042a, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 4>
| | | +-o USB Data Cable@0 <class IOUSBInterface, id
0x10000042b, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (36 ms), retain 6>

under the EHCI devices. In my systems overview is says (dutch)

Productcode: 0x10c5
Fabrikantcode: 0x10ab (USI Co., Ltd.)
Versie: 1,00
Serienummer: 1
Snelheid: Maximaal 12 Mb/sec
Fabrikant: Silicon Labs
Locatiecode: 0xfa140000 / 5
Beschikbare stroom (mA): 500
Vereiste stroom (mA): 100

Maybe I am using a wrong driver, but I can't seem to find the good
one.

TIA,
Paul

Sounds about right.

That would never work ;)

Afraid I don't have MacOS so can't really help much, but I did a bit
of googling and
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=blob_plain;f=drivers/usb/serial/cp210x.c;hb=HEAD

says (amongst many others):
{ USB_DEVICE(0x10AB, 0x10C5) }, /* Siemens MC60 Cable */

so I wonder if the driver you're using doesn't support that VID/PID pair?
*shrug*

You can check the supported devices in /System/Library/Extensions/<driver>.kext/Contents/*.plist, or thereabouts.

Thanks for the reactions. The driver should just work well, the codes are there, cable is recognized, but no /dev/ttyUSB0 or the likes is created. I have given up for now and booted a Ubuntu who connects to the BB out of the box (well, sort of).

Thanks again, I will be putting another question on here about flashing :)

Regards,
Paul
