Thanks for that link! When I first opened it it looked like I was
heading twards a very painful experience, with all the complex
features and terminology and what not... your ARM vs. x86 comment also
helped to augment my fears.
However, reading it in more detail I quickly weeded of many options.
One of the 5 is commercial, so that doesn't count. Of the remaining 4
only 1 (uShare) doesn't do transcoding, which is strongly suggests to
me that it is made to be simple and will not require many resources.
So this was already my favorite.
Further down it says uShare only occupies 3MB, while the other 3 may
occupy anywhere from 1 byte up to +oo. So another point to uShare.
Next the PS3 compatibility: "video". Not "yes", but "video". In this
list I assume "yes"="audio"+"video", but I also assume that
"video"="images"+"sound". This may mean it can only stream videos
along with the sound they contain... ok, that is my main objective, so
it is not an exclusion point... and I guess one can always add a JPEG
to an MP3 and convert it to an MPEG4. :-) ... unless "video"="images
only", of course, but I don't see the point of that.
On the uShare home page it seems there is a limitation where there is
some RAM usage for each file in the library. Mmmm... ok... I have
about 500 music videos, and my collection grows veeeeeryy slowwwwwly,
so as long it doesn't use more than 10K per file it should work.
So, my next step is to backup the Bifferboard and slapt-get ushare -
install... (or something like that, I usually don't get it right on
the first try! :-))
Thanks!
