I just wanted to update this thread, saying that I *did *end up buying a
pair of Rivindell's MUSA Splats. They've taken me through a few storms,
now, and seem to have held up well. They're quite sturdily made. They're a
bit tricky to use with toe clips, as they don't wrap around the toe of the
shoe and can get scrunched up. Of course, that's part of what makes them so
easy to put on-and-off. You win some, you lose some.
