I'm pretty sure the contributor who said that the custom for right side drive dates back to the day when horse back riding was the primary means of travel. Horses are mounted from the left and I believe that custom was because most men carried their sword on the left. It would be a bear to climb aboard your trusty charger if your sword scabbord was between you and your mount!
