First off, I really like my Garmin Edge 705. I complained to Garmin =
about selling a bike computer with auto centric (major roads only) maps, =
while our auto unit has all the side streets and alleys . . but I paid =
the ransom and got their map upgrade. Three years later there are free =
or low cost options I am learning about, but what the heck. I like the =
Edge for helping me find routes to new places in the middle of a trip. =
Also, it has bailed me out and found nice back streets on several =
occasions when roads have been closed and I did not know ahead of time, =
and the only alternatives I KNEW about were heavily traveled. Get bailed =
out like that a couple of times and it has paid for itself! Twice =
this was on routes I had ridden several times, just not recently enough =
to know the bridge was going to get rebuilt!
The one short coming is that it is NOT a map that you can look at for a =
big picture of "Let's go see this town instead of that one" Paper maps =
are better for that kind of thing, Bike Route Toaster and Topo are a =
nice in between step. GPS phones go through batteries too fast, from =
what I have seen.
As for audio tapes and Distributor points, YOW. I teach, HS for 25 =
years, MS now. Some kids are not familiar with Music CDs anymore! All =
they know is downloads and flash drives. I am always amazed at how many =
have trouble telling time with an analog clock. Not to mention the ones =
that can not write in cursive! Everything is printed or keyed in.
The times, they are a changin'

Nope, wouldn't surprise me a bit. They'll soon be in the same =
category as audio tapes and distributor points. =20
