Hello Michael and All,
Thanks for the cyclingsavy reference.
I have visited that website previously.
My cousin, Tug McGraw, a baseball pitcher, coined the phrase, 'Ya
Gotta Believe' (that you can win) when he was with the Amazing Mets.
He was right according to Another Michael, Michael Shermer.
He states we are 'wired' by evolution to believe first, then find
events and information to sustain and support our beliefs.
He states belief first is not peculiar to me, or to you, but to all
humans.
Michael Shermer wrote an interesting book.
You may recognize his name as the infamous 'Shermer's Neck' syndrome
was named for him during a RAAM race.
He wrote an interesting book: The Believing Brian

Alas, I have come to the conclusion that belief is largely immune to
attack by direct educational tools, at least for those who are not
ready to hear it. Belief change comes from a combination of personal
psychological readiness and a deeper social and cultural shift in the
underlying zeitgeist of the times, which is affected in part by
education, but is more the product of larger and harder-to-define
political, economic, religious, and social changes.
