Americans by-and-large admire scientists -- unless they get crosswise
on issues with religious overtones such as evolution, global warming,
embryonic stem cell research -- according to a new survey released
today from the Pew Forum.
Dr. Alan I. Leshner, of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science, called it a "communications gap" but it may be more of a
belief gap.
The survey found 55% say science and religion are often in conflict
and 36% say science sometimes conflicts with their own religious
beliefs.
