Earthquakes shake Central American countries

MEXICO CITY, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Three feeble earthquakes shook the
Dominican Republic and Guatemala Wednesday, causing panic, the two
countries' Emergency Operation Center and Institute of Seismology
reported.
Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.1 and 3.2 shook the Dominican
Republic, the first occurring at 1:16 a.m. local time (0516 GMT) in the
province that borders Haiti, the Emergency Operation Center of the
Dominican capital Santo Domingo said.
A tremor was also felt in Haiti's northeastern town of Fort Liberte.
The 3.2-magnitude quake shook the Dominican Republic's city of El
Seibo, 150 km east of the capital at 5:33 a.m. local time (0933 GMT).
Several small aftershocks occurred in the following 48 hours.
Meanwhile, a 4.7-magnitude quake jolted a great part of Guatemala at
11:08 a.m. local time (1708 GMT), but no deaths nor damages were
reported, the Guatemalan National Institute of Seismology reported.
According to information reaching here from Guatemala City, the
epicenter was located 133 km southwest of the capital, and a tremor
could be felt on the southern coast, the central plateau, and in many
parts of the east.
